/uses is a living document by nature. Here's a summary of changes from mid 2024 to the start of 2026. Plenty has changed in that year and a half which has reshaped how I and software engineers do work.

Summary of changes

  • VSCode is out, Zed is in. At the time in 2024, I had tried Zed and liked it but it didn't have enough of the features I use regularly yet. It does now, and I can't imagine not having a buffer driven editing environment.
  • Ghostty baby. Call me a hypebeast. It's fine. I, like many other developers, hopped on the Ghostty train when it was made publicly available after gaining considerable hype during it's development. I've hopped through a few terminals over the years and Ghostty has been the one that gave me a reason to stop searching.
